We begin each year of classes in September and conclude in May with our dance recital at the Kansas City Music Hall. Our annual sessions consist of 36 weeks; 32 dance weeks which are divided into 4 quarters and 4 additional vacation weeks. We offer small-size jazz technique classes, acro classes and adult classes in our new space, Studio D. We also offer a 6-week summer dance session in June and July which includes tap, ballet, jazz, technique and strength/mobility classes.
Weekly classes are offered for 3-year-olds through 12th graders. Children must turn 3 by September 1st and be potty-trained in order to begin dance class in the fall. For your convenience, all enrollment is completed online. DSOD never has any enrollment fees. New students may enroll for classes by clicking Account Access at the top of this page. Follow the instructions for creating a new account and then enroll for desired classes. Returning students simply need to log into their existing account to enroll for all classes. A student is considered enrolled when tuition is received.

Our dance year is divided into 4 quarters beginning in September and ending in May. Tuition is paid four times a year at the beginning of each quarter. There is no enrollment fee. Tuition must be paid in full prior to each quarter in September, November, January and March for a student to be allowed to participate in class. Every account must have a Primary Parent assigned to it who oversees all activity, updates, etc. The Primary Parent is soley responsible for all account charges. DSOD offers a variety of dance classes. Combination dance classes for 3-year-olds through 3rd graders consist of tap, ballet, jazz and acrobatics. Tap & jazz classes are offered to 4th - 12th graders. Jazz classes are offered to 6th - 12th graders. Ballet classes are offered to 4th - 12th graders. Pointe classes are offered to 7th - 12th grade DSOD ballet students. Hip hop is offered as a specialty class that meets several times throughout the year to 2nd - 12th grade current DSOD students who are enrolled in at least one weekly DSOD class. Ballet/Jazz technique classes are offered to 6th - 8th grade current DSOD students who are enrolled in at least one weekly DSOD class. Technique, acro and adult classes are offered throughout the year.
Family and friends are invited to observe class the first week of each of our 4 quarters. Please refrain from letting younger children run around the studio and/or on the mats during class. Please keep all children's items off the floor and pick up any trash. Food is not allowed in the studio. Please silence all cell phones and keep talking to a minimum while observing class. Family and friends are welcome to observe class through the lobby doors during all other weeks.

Acceptable attire for weekly class for combination and tap/jazz classes includes leotards, tights, dance tops, dance pants, leggings, dance shorts and dance skirts. These items may be any color for weekly classes; however, 3-year-olds - 6th graders are required to have a black camisole leotard for the Christmas Program in December and for the Dance Recital in May. 7th - 12th are required to purchase a DSOD performance dress in the fall that is used for the Christmas Program and the annual Dance Recital. Dance tights are required for all classes in white, tan, black or pink. Appropriate dance shoes are required for all classes. Bare legs and bare feet are not allowed. Street clothes are not allowed.
Required attire for ballet class includes a black leotard and pink tights. Hair must be worn in a bun. Ballet skirts are acceptable. White, tan and black tights are not allowed. Shorts, pants and t-shirts are not allowed. No jewelry please. Pointe students are required to purchase a pointe costume in the fall that is worn in the Christmas Programs and the annual Dance Recital.
Acceptable attire for hip hop and technique classes includes dance tops, t-shirts, dance pants, leggings and sweats. Bare legs and bare feet are not allowed.
Make-up classes are available for absences due to illness or inclement weather. There are no refunds for missed classes from illness or inclement weather.
DSOD cancels classes when the Park Hill School District closes, dismisses early or cancels school and/or evening activities due to inclement weather. Make-up classes are available but not required. DSOD closings are posted on this website and on Facebook.
DSOD is closed on Halloween, but remains open on U.S. federal holidays such as Martin Luther King Day, Presidents' Day, etc. We are also open during school in-service days, teachers’ meetings and parent/teacher conferences.
Students present annual Christmas Programs in mid-December that are free to family and friends. All Programs are held at DSOD. With the exception of Saturday ballet classes, Programs are held during students’ regular class days and times. Details on DSOD Christmas Program dates, attire, rehearsals, etc. are given in class in the fall.
We present a dance recital annually at the Kansas City Music Hall. DSOD recitals are free of charge to the public. Students participating in recital are required to purchase the costumes for each class in which they are enrolled. DSOD recital/costume fees are billed annually in February, and all costumes are distributed once full payment has been received. All quarterly tuition and recital/costume fees must be paid for a student to participate in the recital.

Yes, discounts are offered to families with more than one child dancing and to families who have a child taking multiple classes. See "Enrollment Information" for tuition rates and details. Family discounts are not offered for any of our specialty classes, including technique classes, strength & mobility classes, summer workshops and hip hop. DSOD also proudly offers military discounts.
